What to See and Do in Umbria
The proposed farm is located in Cerreto di Spoleto in “Valnerina“. Cerreto di Spoleto is in the heart of Umbria, near the region’s major sites such as: Norcia, Cascia, Spoleto, Assisi Castelluccio and more!
The Sibillini Mountains National Park is nearby and includes the highest mountain group of the Umbria-Marche Apennines and its highest peak- Monte Vettore.
Among the towns that deserve a visit is Visso– home of the National Park. Legend has it that this municipality, characterized by an ancient picturesque village, was founded about 900 years before Rome and was divided into five districts called “Guaite”, including Castelsantangelo and Ussita.
Not far away, you’ll also find the Gorges of Valnerina, excavated Nera River and the mountain massif of Monte Bove. The heart of an important sector of the park is Norcia, home of the Patron Saint of Europe, St. Benedict, and famous for its splendid historic center.
Another nearby town is Preci. A spiritual place, its Abbey of St. Eutizio was founded in 470 AD as well as the Preciana Surgical School.
Trekking is widely practiced throughout the area and is facilitated by marked trails and guided tours offered by the Park. There are walk-able paths as well as those suited to cycling or horseback. The Saffron Path (named for the ancient spice that was transported from Abruzzo) is the most well known.
Climbing is also widespread in this area, especially on the northern slopes of Mount Bove. In addition, the park also offers hang gliding and paragliding.
Other sports that you might want to try during your weekend in Umbria are rafting and canyoning along the rivers.
