Cavallino Matto: Tuscany’s Seaside Amusement Park

Home » Cavallino Matto: Tuscany’s Seaside Amusement Park

When most people think of Italy, they think of its art, churches, castles, and of course, food. Although Italy is not necessarily known for its amusement and theme parks, there are quite a few very impressive ones scattered throughout the peninsula. The most well-known are Gardaland, Mirabilandia, and Cinecittà World but Tuscany’s own Cavallino Matto is surprisingly amazing!

Located in the lovely seaside town of Castagneto Carducci (Livorno), Cavallino Matto is the perfect destination for families or if you’re looking to do something out of the box for a day. The grounds are immaculately kept and luckily for its visitors, the entire park is under the shady canopy of a pine grove. The sea breeze also helps!

Rides for All Ages

There are plenty of rides for all ages and adventure levels too. Cavallino Matto actually has the only stand-up roller coaster in all of Italy- the Freestyle! I would rate this as the number 1 adrenaline attraction at the park with its loop and 4.5 Gs. Coming in at a close second is the Shocking Tower (a 50-meter freefall) and the Yucatan (a giant rotating wheel that gets up to 120 km and 240 degrees!). Next up is the Project 1 coaster which is a fast-paced thrill yet suitable for younger kids too (minimum height requirement is 110 cm).

The “Family” category of attractions is full of plenty of variety to keep the little ones entertained and the older kids will like them too! Water rides include Jurassic River with its almost life-size, realistic dinosaurs that meet you at every turn and drop and also Corsaro Splash and Baia dei Bucanieri. This category is the most ample with a total of 12 listed.

Finally, even the tiniest in your party will get to enjoy attractions that are just their size and include a canoe ride, a safari, a mini track, and playgrounds.

Make sure and catch a show while you’re there. They do not overlap which is nice because you don’t need to worry about missing any that you’re interested in.

There are plenty of options for lunch and snacks with various restaurants and cafes located throughout the park. You are also allowed to bring in your own food and drink and sit on any of the numerous benches in the shade and have your lunch or snack.

Cavallino Matto was a pleasant surprise and made for a completely enjoyable day. Friendly staff, impeccably clean grounds and facilities, and a wide variety of rides make it ideal for the entire family. It is just big enough to spend a day in yet not so big that you feel overwhelmed trying to get on all the rides before it closes.

You can purchase your tickets in advance online or at the ticket counter. Summer hours are from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm (although check the calendar as some days the park closes at 7 pm). The park is open from March 30 through November 3 (with special events for Halloween).

Parking is easy as there are free parking lots very close to the entrance of the park. Bring a change of clothes for the little ones and wear comfortable shoes that can get wet.

Make sure and check the website for complete details.
