21 years of cinema from the Far East, 76 selected films and one city: Udine. This is the starting lineup of the Far East Film Festival, the largest European showcase for Asian cinema, scheduled from April 26th to May 4th at the Teatro Nuovo and the Cinema Centrale in Udine.
76 titles on the program (51 in competition) from 12 countries, a retrospective, a monograph, a tribute to the new independent Korean cinema, 2 “strange couples”, a world-premier of a restored film and more than 100 thematic events organized in the heart of Udine.
A bona fide “cinematic island” where cinema is not just celebrated – with 3 world premieres, 12 international premieres and 18 European premieres – but also looks to the future: this year, 15 projects have been chosen for Focus Asia, the Festival’s market, and 10 for Ties That Bind, the international Asia/Europe workshop. Over 200 industry professionals from 36 countries are expected in Udine, and there’ll be an important innovation: the Co-Production Day scheduled for Wednesday the 1st of May. A huge round-table table that will bring together European and Asian filmmakers and producers to analyse and develop the 2018 Italy/China co-production agreement.
The events surrounding the Festival could stand alone! The Far East Market with stalls in the historic location of Piazza San Giacomo where you’ll find typical Japanese kimonos, precious Thai handicrafts, traditional sake, Maneki Neko, the beautiful kokeshi dolls, manga gadgets and delicious Asian food. The performances range from the engaging and rhythmic sound of Korean drums and Janggu dance, traditional Thai and Filipino dances, to the Chinese circus.
The Far East Cosplay Contest, will once again be led by the undisputed star of Italian cosplayers Giorgia Cosplay. The winner of “Best Italian Far East Cosplayer” will be rewarded with a trip to Japan!
There will also be culinary encounters from oriental spices to sake and tea rituals. Don’t miss a cook-off challenge between pasta and Asian noodles and various tastings and dinners from sushi to saki.
So all that’s left to do is plan your unforgettable weekend at FEFF!
