I’m talking about…the Foire d’été, the arts and crafts summer fair.
The Aosta Valley is well-known throughout the country for local crafts where wood, stone and iron, in particular, take shape in the most varied and incredible forms of art (wooden flowers, famous little roosters and typical “tatà”, frames , games, statues, paintings, sticks, tools, useful objects for home and furnishings…and much more). There will be numerous cultural and entertainment attractions from the 21st of July until the 5th of August 2018, in the center of the capital city named Aosta. From July 21-29, the 65th Show-competition with 300+ artisans will take place and from August 2-5 the Atelier in Piazza Chanoux (the main square of the city). On August 5th, the heart of Foire d’été in its 50th edition with 500+ artists and exhibitors will be showcased.

Why go?
This big summer fair is a unique opportunity to admire classy handicraft even during summer. Many people probably know the famous Sant’Orso Fair, held every year at the end of January…well, this is its summer sister which equals it in terms of quality and fame. Compared to the previous editions, some additional activities have been organised this year.
There will be a series of “meetings” between crafts and flavours starting on July 21: local cheese, renowned wines, jams made with typical products, mountain herbs, local desserts and various liquors of the area…in order to offer an original tasting of quality food.

If you’re interested in arts, crafts, culture and want to discover a Roman city full of archaeological sites (for example, the Roman Theater, the Criptoportico, the Augustan Arch of Honor, the Roman Quarter, the Roman Doors…all of this by foot throughout the city) in a pleasant and fun atmosphere, then Aosta is the solution for you!

Food lovers will have fun from the late afternoon through the evening because they will discover a variety of local products, accompanied by concerts scattered throughout the town centre.
People who are already in the Aosta Valley can take advantage of the opportunity to discover something more about this territory’s rich, artistic contributions.
The event is perfect for young and old alike since there are many activities planned specifically with children in mind.

What You Will Take Away
In addition to souvenirs, and unique handcrafted pieces, you will live a true cultural experience in a context rich in history, archaeology, traditions and musical and gastronomic entertainment.

If you’re looking for a holiday in Aosta Valley between the end of July and the beginning of August, don’t miss the most famous craft event in the area!
