Meeting location is in front of Palazzo Pitti, the palace that was the residence of three great dynasties: the Medici, the Lorena and the Savoy.
Boboli is a real open-air museum for its architectural-landscape setting and for the collection of ancient and Renaissance sculptures. It is also adorned with caves, such as the famous one built by Bernardo Buontalenti, as well as with large fountains, such as that of Neptune and the Ocean.
Its conception and development span four centuries, from the 15th to the 20th centuries. The lands were initially purchased by Messer Luca Pitti and in 1549 by Eleonora di Toledo, wife of Cosimo I, who wanted to expand and transform them. Both the Medici and the Lorena family continued to gradually enrich the statuary collections and the size of the Garden until the nineteenth century, creating an incredible scenario.
During our walk along the garden avenues, you will discover suggestive areas to say the least: the Amphitheater, the Viottolone, the Grotta Grande, the terraced area with the Kaffeehaus pavilion (a rare example of Rococo architecture in Tuscany), the Knight’s garden (small baroque garden) and the lemon garden, built by Zanobi del Rosso between 1777 and 1778.
The Boboli Gardens is an integral part of the Pitti Palace and visiting it allows you to fully grasp the spirit of court life while enjoying past traditions and the present.
The tour lasts about 2 hours.
