By booking your Christmas in Perugia, you can enjoy the magical atmosphere that characterizes the city at this time of year, including lights, markets and concerts.
In the historic center, you will find the classic ice rink, where you can skate to the rhythm of music and Christmas songs. Once again, the romantic ferris wheel will return offering a splendid view of the city decorated for Christmas.
We suggest you visit the Christmas market at Rocca Paolina, where you can find interesting gift ideas for friends and family including Christmas decorations, local handicrafts and local food and wine products. A mix of colors, aromas and flavors will lead you on a one of a kind journey.
If you’re traveling with children, don’t miss Santa’s Park in Città della Domenica, only about 6 km away from the hotel. From December 1 to December 26, the little ones will be able to meet Santa Claus in person arriving at his house in the woods via the “train of wonders”. They can also send their letter directly from the elves’ post office and take part in all kinds of other activities, such as the toy factory, and a treasure hunt to find the “Spirit of Christmas”.
If you book your Christmas holiday in Perugia, you can also visit other nearby Umbrian towns that are equally special during the Holidays. Gubbio, which boasts the largest Christmas tree in the world; Assisi, city of St. Francis; Spoleto (60 km), whose beauties are praised in the poems of numerous poets such as Carducci and d’Annunzio; Spello (30 km), built with the pink color of Mount Subasio on which it stands; Orvieto (75 km), defined as a “tall, strange city” by Fazio degli Uberti in his Dittamondo; and finally Lake Trasimeno (Passignano is 28 km away).
WHERE TO EAT
Your Christmas vacation in Perugia wouldn’t be complete without enjoying its delicacies. We recommend a few restaurants, easily reachable from the hotel, where you can try local specialties and experience Umbrian cuisine.
Just a few steps from the Fontana Maggiore, with one of the most beautiful medieval views of Perugia, is the Il Cantinone restaurant. Housed in ancient cellars dating back to the fourteenth century, it has been offering a prized menu based on traditional Umbrian dishes for over a century. It also serves excellent pizza.
Another restaurant not to be missed is Al Tartufo. Set among the historic alleyways of Perugia, in the heart of the historic center of the city, it specializes in a truffle-based cuisine. Each dish created, in fact, is designed to match the fresh truffle of the season, so that everyone, depending on their tastes, can decide if and where to add it.
Finally La Taverna, a landmark of the Umbrian culinary tradition, is located a few meters from Corso Vannucci in an old cellar. Among the specialties of this restaurant, le caramelle rosse with gorgonzola stand out, a dish made of homemade pasta filled with red turnips on a bed of gorgonzola cream.
The hotel is located in a great location outside the restricted traffic area. You’ll be able to drive directly to the hotel by car without permits, park your car and travel by foot through the narrow medieval streets of the center.
Those arriving by train: from Perugia Central Station “Perugia Fontivegge” or by bus “Terminal Bus Piazza Partigiani”, you can easily reach the hotel by public transport. The lines are the “TS” and the “P” from Piazza Italia, or you can take the shuttle that connects the city with the San Francesco di Assisi airport, about 15 km from the hotel
