Romantic Getaway: the Town of Trani
When you book this romantic getaway in Puglia, you will soon discover that the ancient village of Trani is characterized by narrow streets and alleys that intersect each other. During the guided walking tour, you’ll admire the fascinating medieval churches, the Swabian Castle – bequeathed by Emperor Frederick II – and the Cathedral, a treasure of Romanesque art that seems to be suspended over the sea, with its majestic silhouette mirrored in the waters.
The tour winds through the skein of narrow streets of Trani’s historic center, among artisan shops, galleries, local restaurants and picturesque views. You will notice that the streets are covered with white limestone- the famous Pietra di Trani– which is the backdrop of this spectacular landscape.
You’ll visit the medieval Jewish quarter of Giudecca, where you’ll visit the Sant’Anna Synagogue Museum and learn the history of Trani’s Jewish community. The museum ticket is included in the package price and can be used within 48 hours of issuance.
After exploring the old town and the Jewish quarter, you’ll head towards its port. Once a destination for crusaders and pilgrims, the port is now a lively center of city life where all roads converge. The port is full of modern boats, but the small fishing boats that bring fresh fish to the city is what will impress you most. You’ll witness the fishermen selling their freshly caught product just as it’s been done for centuries.
At the end of your tour, you will have the opportunity to taste the local sweet wine, the Moscato di Trani.
