The Sounds of the Dolomites is…
Every summer, the Trentino region in northern Italy hosts dozens of live open-air concerts as part of the spectacular Sounds of the Dolomites music festival, where international artists perform a varied program of jazz, classical and world music on natural, open-air stages in the woodlands, meadows and forests of the Dolomites.
The big news of the 2019 edition is that for the first time, Rossini’s opera, The Barber of Seville, will be performed at 2,000 meters above sea level!
When and Where
Defined as the most evocative music festival at high altitudes, this event, now in its 25th edition, stages the refined art of internationally renowned musicians who perform in a unique setting, the spectacular Dolomites.
From June 28 to September 15, 2019, in the valleys of Trentino, the echo of classical, rock, jazz, folk, opera and world music will resound. In all, there will be 25 concerts with names such as Avi Avital, Russian Renaissance, Yamandu Costa, Mario Brunello and Malika Ayane.
The performances will be held almost entirely outdoors, near mountain refuges and excellent locations, all within walking distance along well-marked trails. Some concerts and shows will start at sunrise or sunset, others will last until late at night.
La Campiglio Special Week is an added bonus of being a festival within the festival. From September 1-7, a series of events will take place that will enliven the Rendena Valley. The concerts will take place both at high altitudes and in the Valley.
Musical Hiking
The “musical trekking” tradition will be back again for this year’s edition. From September 1-3, in Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo and Val Rendena four cellists will accompany you on a lovely hike. Over the course of the three days, the connections between classical and Brazilian music will be explored, between baroque composers and great overseas artists in a fascinating alternation between distant worlds.
This festival has the extraordinary power of uniting two great passions, music and the mountains. It offers the opportunity to appreciate the talent of extraordinary artists in a unique natural context.
