Take part in this walking tour of the old city centre of Bari! You’ll see Barese women making homemade pasta- orecchiette, taste the local focaccia bread and, above all, learn the true story of Santa Claus!
This is a guided tour that allows you to experience the beauty of the area and traditions that characterize the capital of Puglia, from food and wine to popular folklore.
You will visit the magnificent Basilica dedicated to St. Nicholas, you’ll witness Barese women making homemade orecchiette and local Christmas sweets, and then you’ll finish the tour with a ride on the fantastic Ferris wheel, one of the largest in Europe.
And that’s not all! You’ll also learn more about the traditions related to Santa Claus, identified locally as the figure of St. Nicholas, for the generosity that characterized the saint when he was alive.
The Tour
On this tour you will discover the oldest part of Bari, or Bari Vecchia, where the Swabian Castle is also located.
The tour departs from the Castle, an imposing fortress that stands on the edge of the old city and symbolizes the city of Bari. From there, you and your guide will branch off between the various alleys overlooking the sea. You’ll then reach the Basilica of St. Nicholas, one of the most significant examples of Pugliese Romanesque architecture, and the Cathedral dedicated to St. Sabina.
During the tour, you’ll have the unique experience of watching local women prepare dough for the classic orecchiette pasta, prepare local Christmas delicacies and sweets, and focaccia bread.
At the end of the tour you’ll be able to take a spin on the Ferris wheel for a spectacular view from the top of Bari’s promenade. The wheel is one of the largest in Europe and consists of 28 cabins, each with a maximum capacity of six passengers.
The tour is available for a minimum of two participants.
