Florence, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, is fascinating in any season but during the Christmas and New Year holidays, it becomes truly magical. Every year the city reinvents itself with the latest generation of light installations and for some years now, it has been called the Green Line Festival. In addition, there are various Christmas markets which will take place in the city center and on the outskirts. This year, the Cascine park is where you will find the huge Ferris wheel and the ice skating rink.

Green Line Light Festival

The festival promoted by the Municipality of Florence with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, the Metropolitan City of Florence and Tuscan Initiatives and organized by MUS.E, begins on 8 December and lasts until 7 January 2024.
The theme of the 2023/2024 edition is “The Winter Garden” and there will be many installations and video projections from the historic center to the outskirts that will illuminate some of the city’s most famous buildings and monuments such as the Ponte Vecchio and the Palazzo Vecchio.

Christmas Markets

In Novoli at the San Donato multifunctional center from 19 November to 7 January 2024 you will find many wooden chalet stalls selling the finest handcrafted products, unique and precious decorations, but also street food, music, entertainment for the little ones and much more. There are many free underground parking spaces for the first two hours of parking.

In Piazza Santa Maria Novella from 8 to 21 December, there will be another market with around 15 stalls with vendors mostly artisans specializing in leather, ceramics, and fabrics.

The Cascine Park

The famous giant Ferris wheel 55 meters high will be located at the Cascine instead of the Fortezza da Basso. From December 8th until June 2024, you can take a ride in the sky and enjoy the breathtaking view over the fantastic city of Florence!
Plus, during the holidays there will be a huge Christmas tree and the largest ice skating rink in Italy.
