If we can’t physically go to a museum then the next best thing is to use today’s modern technology and experience it from the comfort of our own home! So many museums have gotten on board to make their exhibitions available online and one of these is Otzi, the Iceman in Bolzano.

Who Was Ötzi?

Alto Adige’s Archeologic Museum in Bolzano has had a permanent exhibition dedicated to Otzi since 1998. It was in the year 1991 when a couple hiking through the mountains discovered the mummified iceman in Val Senales. Along with his body, there were also tools and clothing that would reveal the mysteries of the Copper Age in the Neolithic Period. The discovery has given us a rare glimpse into the life of our fairly recent ancestors who lived over 5,000 years ago.

What’s Available Online

If you haven’t had the opportunity to personally visit the exhibition, now is the time to take advantage of modern technology and enjoy Otzi from your home. As of March 26, 2020, the museum has made the entire database available online. This is a comprehensive wealth of information on Otzi collected thus far.

What’s more, the database is available in English, German, and Italian and in two versions: scientific and one in layman’s terms and easily comprehensible.
