The 20th Edition of “Candele a Candelara”: Celebrate the True Spirit of Christmas in the Marches

Home » The 20th Edition of “Candele a Candelara”: Celebrate the True Spirit of Christmas in the Marches

The “Candele a Candelara”, or “Candles in Candelara” is a Holiday festival in the province of Pesaro and Urbino and one of the most fascinating events of the winter and the Christmas Season. It is the very first Christmas market in Italy entirely devoted to candles.

The festival will take place from November 25th to December 17th, with various opening days. The center of the event is the Christmas market in the medieval village overlooking Pesaro.

Every evening, the electric lighting is turned off for 15 minutes (at 5.30 pm and 7.00 pm), creating a unique atmosphere with thousands of lit candles.

Immerse Yourself In This Truly Magical Atmosphere

For half an hour in the evening, the village will be completely illuminated by candlelight. The decorations along the walls will align with the four themes of Advent: prophets, shepherds, angels, and Bethlehem. There will be shows and entertainment such as luminous stilt walkers, pixie musicians, jugglers, bagpipes, and musical groups.

You will also be able to see how beeswax candles and wrought iron sculptures are made. A novelty this year will be the mechanical nativity scene with live demonstrations of artists creating figurines and accessories.

The Elves’ Shop will have little workshops for children, and of course, a chance to meet with Santa Claus.

Along the village streets there will be a 20-meter-high Christmas tree with colored lights. Santa Claus musicians and players of traditional instruments will be present, along with guided tours of the sixteenth-century Villa Berloni and the Loom and Embroidery Museum.

Over seventy wooden chalets will be selling handicrafts, gifts, and candles of various types.

“Candele a Candelara” strengthens the link with the nearby city of Pesaro, the future Capital of Culture 2024, offering an artistic-cultural journey to discover the cultural opportunities of the city.

Entrance is 3 euros before 1.00 pm and 5 euros after 1.00 pm. For children under 10 years old, entry is free.
